Studying in Canada May Open Door to Immigration

A major reason why people are migrating to Canada in recent times is post-secondary education. Also, the promise of a better life in Canada is a major contributor to increased immigration.

Canada Immigration Express stated that one country in particular, India, migrates massively into Canada for education. India and other countries in South Asia have been major contributors to Canadian immigration throughout history. This is proven true as over 5% of British Columbians speak Punjabi natively.

Out of the 509,000 university students in British Columbia during the 2020/2021 academic year, about 151,185 were international students, according to a ministry spokesperson.

Top Two Contributors of International Students in Canada

About seven years back, the student permit applications from India for study in Canada were almost the same as those from China. But this year, half of the applications between January and June were from India. The applications from China, the second highest contributor of international students, remained relatively stable, Canada Immigration Express reported.

The increase in the rate at which Indians send in applications to study in Canada can be said to be due to the increasing number of the middle class in India who can afford to send their children abroad. Also, the diverse field of study offered in Canada attracts young people to the country, particularly as there is a high youth unemployment rate in India.

Reasons for Immigrants' Movement into Canada

Aside from the study opportunities in Canada, the country has an accommodating nature for foreigners. Also, the country’s need for skilled workers to enhance its economy makes it an attractive place for people looking for a greener pasture.
